Two years ago I won a gift certificate for a meal at Murray's in Morganton, NC at a motorcycle rally. It had lain in a drawer since then virtually forgotten. It had been a while since I had been out of the house and cabin fever was beginning to set in so I decided to grab the certificate and frau and head to Morganton.
Murray's was a nice little restaurant that surprised me. I ordered the chicken fried steak and I normally do not do that outside of Texas. Texans are the masters of frying non-chicken meat as if it were chicken. A lot of places outside of Texas put a brown gravy on the steak and it really should be a white pepper gravy know as "sawmill" gravy. The chicken fried steak I had at Murray's was the best I have ever had outside of Texas. (Don't even get me going on North Carolina barbeque. It is vile stuff.)

Looking out over Linnville Gorge from Lake James State Park |
Afterwards, on the way home, we stopped by and saw Lake James State Park. We had camped there years ago and it had changed a lot. There is a new area called Paddy's Creek and it looked as though it had all been created in the last few years. It was a nice spot and I am sure we will return.

There has not been a lot of traveling going on but some rather large trips are on the horizon. In March I will travel to Texas for a week and in the summer I will be crossing the Atlantic on a freighter to Europe. Stay tuned and check back often!
